Summary: Kon’s x-ray vision accidentally kicks in late one evening, making him privy to something he should not have witnessed. And yet, he finds himself coming back for more.
It’s a Wednesday night and for the life of him, Kon can’t seem to fall asleep. He’s tried everything, from counting sheep (he made it to 500 before deciding to try other methods) to reading through several pages of his history text book (which, by the way, was really boring), but even that had not been enough to make him yawn.
By the time his clock hit 3AM, Kon decided maybe a quick trip to the kitchens might rouse some drowsiness within him. The tower was quiet, except for the soft murmurs and snores of his fellow teammates. He was halfway down the hall when he came across Tim’s room.
Here he hesitated, wondering if it was possible Tim was still up. The guy had a severe case of the nocturnals; it often made Kon wonder if Tim even knew what the word ‘sleep’ was anymore. He had a serious knack for going on long periods without it, that was for sure. But as Kon waited there by the door, trying to listen for any sound to indicate that Tim was awake, he was only greeted by more silence.
Kon sighed, disappointed. Figures the one time Kon was up late, Tim decided to hit the hay.
He was about to head back down the hall again when he heard it. A little breathy gasp that was barely audible. But Kon’s hearing was more than a little perfect, and he heard it as if someone had just spoken it aloud to him.
He stopped at Tim’s door again, staring at it. When he heard nothing, Kon started wondering if his being unable to fall asleep was making him hear things.
But he could have sworn he heard something. Slightly confused at this point Kon backtracked from the door slowly, keeping his ears open and alert.
That’s when he heard it again. The little breathy gasp from earlier… (he knew he wasn’t hearing things!) only it sounded less muffled and more like a half-contained groan. There was a shuffling going on inside, like someone was tossing and turning on the bed.
Kon halted. Was… Tim having a nightmare? He knew Tim had a lot of deep, emotional scarring buried beneath all those layers of nonchalance, but Kon knew for a fact that you couldn’t keep something like that to yourself without it finding a way to crop back up somehow.
Kon closed his eyes and listened some more. The shuffling grew more frantic as did the grunting, which turned into an achy moan, as if from pain.
He was just about to burst in and wake Tim up when he heard something else that made him automatically freeze where he was.
“Kon,” Tim was gasping. “Kon, please—”
At the sound of his name, Kon’s eyes flew open and suddenly, he was seeing inside Tim’s room. His gaze momentarily flitted through the open space, from the computer table to the bookshelf by the wall and then right to the bed, where Tim was spread out on his back, his head tossing sideways and his feet planted firmly on the mattress. His hand was deep in his—
Oh.
Tim was… Tim was…
“Kon, Kon,” Tim was sobbing now, his back arching and his head thrown back as he came.
The mere shock and unexpectedness of it was enough for Kon to reel back his x-ray vision, which he did not even realize he had activated until he was staring wide-eyed at Tim’s door again.
For the longest time, Kon could scarcely breathe, let alone think or move. He did not know how long he stood staring at Tim’s door or how he even managed to make it back to his room, but by the time Kon had slid into bed, everything finally caught up to him like a freight train.
Tim. He couldn’t even begin to fathom what just happened, but Kon’s eyes—what he just saw… he knew it wasn’t something he’d likely to ever forget.
Needless to say, Kon did not sleep a wink for the remainder of the night.
